Mount Vernon-Enola’s Kendall Laggett parred three of the final four holes Tuesday to claim the Class A girls golf championship.
Laggett had a 42-46 to win individual honors by two strokes over Shirley’s Nikki Owen. Laggett qualified for the Overall tournament Oct. 17 at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock.
Mount Vernon-Enola, the defending Class A state champion, lost a playoff to Shirley for the team title at the Coopers Hawk Golf Course at Melbourne. Both teams finished at 293. Izard County Consolidated was third at 315.
Jessi Bartley of MV-Enola was fifth overall at 95. Other scores for the Lady Warhawks were: Taylor Hensley, 110; and Alyssa Alexander, 112. Paula Lopez of Guy-Perkins came in at 128.
At the Lost Springs Golf and Athletic Club at Rogers, Fort Smith Southside won the 7A Central championship with a 244. Conway’s girls, the defending state champions, entered the final round eighth overall among 13 teams at 269.
The first round of the 36-hole event determined conference championships. The two-day scores determine the state champion.
Fayetteville surged to the first-day lead with a 235. Conway took eighth going into the final round.
Mount St. Mary finished second for the Central title at 254.
Logan Tolliver had the Lady Cats’ best score at 85. Other Conway scores were: Anna Turner, 90; Emily Lock and Alexis McDaniel, 94; and Meghan Smith, 107.
