VILONIA-The Eagles were flying high on Tuesday night as they picked up a pair of convincing victories over the Beebe Badgers in nonconference action.
Vilonia scored the first 16 points of the contest while Beebe shot a dismal 11 percent from the floor as the Eagles cruised to a 54-10 victory.
The Eagles (7-1) forced Beebe into several early turnovers, which resulted in numerous easy baskets as they took an 18-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
"I thought that we came out sharp and gain the momentum early," Vilonia coach Lance Davis said. "It was good to get the starters some rest after coming off a tough game on Saturday and the three game weekwe had. We are playing pretty good basketball and we need to be as we have a big game this Friday at Batesville."
The Badgers would again manage only one basket in the second period as the Eagles extended their advantage to 34-4 going into intermission. Vilonia closed out the half on a 13-0 run, which covered the final five minutes of the second period.
The Vilonia starters did not see any playing time in the second half, but they still put up impressive numbers. Tyler Binam led the way as he had 13 points while Kevin Wyzgoski and Brad Norris each added eight in the victory.
The Eagle reserves would not be out done either, as they outscored the Badgers 20-6 in the final two quarters, not to mention that they did not allow a single point in the fourth stanza.
"It is always good for your younger guys to get a chance to play in a meaningful game," Davis said. "I got to see a lot of guys in game situations tonight and that will help us when we get deeper into the season if we have an injury or foul troubles.
"Experience is huge, especially for the second group that doesn't get to see a lot of action. The more minutes we can get them the better off we will be in the future."
LADY EAGLES
After the Lady Eagles got through the first quarter, they flew right past Beebe as they picked up a 44-24 victory at the Vilonia High School Gymnasium.
Beebe jumped out to a 10-6 advantage at the end of the first period, but it would be all Vilonia from that point on. The Lady Eagles (7-1) would go on a 15-0 run midway through the second quarter, as they opened up an 11-point lead.
During that run, Constance Alcon contributed six points on a pair of three-point plays while Sarah Rigby added three easy baskets for nine points.
"I thought we played good at times but we were to inconsistent to start the ball game," Vilonia coach Alvin Riley said. "We pushed the lead out a little bit in the second quarter but we let up towards the half and let them cut it down a bit. They never made a major run in the second half, especially after that third quarter."
Vilonia would put the final nail in the Lady Badgers coffin in the third period, as they would outscore Beebe 8-0 in the quarter, to open up a 14-point lead.
Tiffany Bonds would score the first five points of the final frame to extend the lead to 19 and make way for the reserves.
"We need everyone to chip in and hit the open shots when they get the chance," Riley said. "We you get balance, that makes it tough for the opposition to key on any one player and that is when we are at our best."
Alcon led the way for Vilonia as she had 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting while Kayla Hawkins and Bonds each finished with seven for the Lady Eagles.
Vilonia is back in action on Friday as they travel to Batesville.
