
   
Conway Garden Club celebrates a Victorian Christmas at Dog Trot Log Cabin

The Conway Garden Club recently helped with the Victorian Christmas Celebration at the Dog Trot Log Cabin, Faulkner County Museum, Nov. 8 and 9. Sponsors were the Museum, Town and Country Garden Club and Conway Garden Club.
The Conway Garden Club decorated a room in the Victorian style using lots of lace, greenery and bows. The live cedar tree was decorated with lace fans, hats, angels and bows as well as red apples and candy canes. On the table a pink tablecloth overlaid with lace was used with pink dishes, Victorian silverware and a centerpiece of dried plants and flowers Christmas tree topped off with ribbon.
Lace trim was used on the chairs with roses and bows. Lace curtains were used at all of the windows. On the bed, lace trimmed sheets and pillowcases were used with a crochet, popcorn stitch bed spread, also a lace angel was placed near the pillows and a Victorian style painting was hung above the bed.
Actual family pictures of ancestors were used as well as old books were placed on the organ and old sheet music on the music stand.
The Town and Country Garden Club decorated the other room and all of the outside of the cabin. These greenery and bow decorations can be seen as you drive by or stop at the Dog Trot Log Cabin located on Faulkner street behind the museum and the courthouse.
Cider, coffee and gingersnaps were provided and served by the museum volunteers. Both garden clubs had crafts for sale on the cabin back porch; baked goods and jellies were also available.
The "Konway Kickers" provided a dancing program on the front porch. These young people were dressed in Victorian style and invited the audience to come up and participate in the dancing. Donna Bivens, director of the group is a member of Conway Garden Club. A musical program was provided inside the museum.
Both garden clubs' members dressed in the Victorian style complete with hats, fringed and lace shawls and gloves. Conway Garden Club members who participated were: Julia Fraser, President, Vickie Repp, Paulette Herring, Norma Crass, Pat Byrd, Florene Phipps, Donna Bivens, Betty Taylor and Sherry Scholijerdes
