75 years ago

(1933)

From the Woodrow column: Quite a number of men met Monday and cut wood for the schoolhouse. They cut 19 wagon loads. New school books for the grammar grades are out of the questionfor the majority of the children. There are no second-hand books that were written six years ago, they were correct in their English, they will be just as good for the school children today. Archie and Lavaugn Walker returned home from Missouri, where they had been picking cotton for two months.

(1958)

John Bonds, who attended Rice Institute at Houston, Texas, was spending the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fay Bonds.

Mrs. Alton McKinney was hostess to the Ever Green Garden Club at her home. Co-hostesses were Mrs. Bernard Smith and Mrs. Newt Milam. Mrs. Edwin E. Fowlkes opened the meeting with the reading of the club creed. Mrs. John B. Silaz Jr. gave a report on the Fairside elementary school landscaping project: The club voted to give an additional $25 to the project. Joe C. Shaw of Arkansas State Teacher's College talked on preparing for spring blooming.

(1983)

The Junior Shakespeare Club met in the home of Edna Stanford. Helen Davis presided. Members voted to give presents to underprivileged children fir a Christmas project. Mrs. Richard Yates spoke on interesting experiences she had during trips to Europe. Co-hostesses for the meeting were Inez Lewis, Bonnie Boyett and Frances Clark.

Dr. and Mrs. Loren Guffey and children, Craig and Dedra, returned from a weekend in Mexico, Mo., where they visited their son, Cadet Mark Guffey, who attended the Missouri Military Academy. Cadet Guffey, who ranked first in his class academocally, was awarded academic honors in a dress parade.

(1998)

The freshman white team lost a close game in the closing minutes to Sheridan, 14-10. Dennis Jones threw a 65-yard pass for Timothy McDonald and Lance Wilcox added a PAT and a 35-yard field goal for the Cats, who got three interceptions, two by Jason Deere and one by John Duhart. Sheridan scored with 1:50 left for the victory.

The Conway Twisters won the under 10 girls division in the 16-team Lakewood FallFest soccer tournament. Team members were Courtney Bloodworth, Lindsey Sams, Lindsey Barnes, Laney Mann, Charlie Ann Hoelzeman, Katies Hiegel, Chanel Irvin, Arielle Lockhart, Maura Murphy, Amanda Matthews, Ashleigh Blackwell, Amanda Downey and Brittany Roland, Coaches were Kevin Sams and David Roland.
