Claude B. 'Bud' Bradford

Claude B. "Bud" Bradford, 84, of Shirley (Van Buren County), father of Alvin Bradford of Conway, died Thursday (Oct. 23, 1997) at his home.

Born Nov. 14, 1912, in Shirley, son of the late Willie and Sallie Walley Bradford, he was a farmer, a World War II Army veteran, a 50-year Mason, and member of Eglantine Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by a son and grandson.

Other survivors are his wife, Opal Ford Bradford; another son, Jesse Bradford of Jonesboro; a daughter, Winnie Brown of Shirley; a brother, George Bradford of Shirley; two sisters, Leon Payne of Shirley and Lucille Simpkins of Clinton; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at Eglantine Church of Christ with Marty Knight officiating. Burial will be in Eglantine Cemetery by Olmstead Funeral Home of Heber Springs.

Pallbearers will be Hansel Bradford, Ancel Bradford, Willie Bradford, Clofus Bradford, Lennie Bradford, Jerry Simpkins, Tommy Simpkins and Wayne Beavers.

Dennis P. Simmons

Dennis P. Simmons, 78, of Queen City, Texas, a native of Vilonia, died Tuesday (Oct. 21, 1997) at Wadley Hospital in Texarkana, Texas.

Born May 8, 1919, son of the late Rev. E. F. and Jennie Parker Simmons, he was a retired industrial arts teacher, an employee at Tandy Leather Co., a World War II Army veteran, a Mason and a member of Salem Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Darrell Simmons of Cleveland, Tenn.

Survivors are his wife, Rose Mary Virginia Roach Kight Simmons; a son, Allen Kight of Arlington, Texas; a daughter, Elizabeth R. Kight Wormington of Atlanta, Texas; two brothers, Doyle Simmons of Vilonia and Dexter Simmons of Porter, Texas; five sisters, Drucie Fortney and Doris Shaw, both of Conway, Delma Harris and Dorcas Measel, both of Vilonia, and Donnie Sartain of Quitman; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Thursday at Hanner Funeral Home in Atlanta, Texas, with the Rev. Robert Tripp and the Rev. George Wormington officiating. Burial was in Springdale Cemetery in Cass County, Texas.

Mrs. Hockenbury

Mrs. Mabel Alice Hockenbury, 81, of Conway died Friday (Oct. 24, 1997) at St. Andrews Place.

Born Nov. 18, 1915, at Hagarstown, Ill., daughter of the late Vern and Alta Coin Johnson, she was a laundry attendant at North Plaza Fabric Care Center and a Baptist.

She was also preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Raye Edwin Hockenbury.

Survivors are two daughters, Sharon Smith of Conway and Patricia Jones of Pottsville (Pope County); six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Oak Grove Cemetery with William West officiating. Burial will be by Roller-McNutt Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the National Cancer Society.

Mrs. Zora J. Sublett

Mrs. Zora J. Sublett, 97, of Mount Vernon died Saturday (Oct. 25, 1997) at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.

Born March 8, 1900, in the Holland community, daughter of the late Ira D. and Nancy Mathis James, she was a homemaker and member of Barney Missionary Baptist Church.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Sublett, a son, Esker Lee Sublett, and a grandson, Sammy Keith Roberts.

Survivors are four sons, James Sherman Sublett of Conway, Vernon Sublett of North Little Rock, Samuel Elbert Sublett of Mount Vernon and Raymond Henry Sublett of Greenbrier; three daughters, Eva Mae Wooly of Vilonia, Thelma Ruth Boberts of Little Rock and Pauline Stewart of Mount Vernon; a sister, Thishey Brewer of North Little Rock; 25 grandchildren; and 54 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be sent to Barney Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Estelle Dennis

Mrs. Estelle Williams Dennis, 84, of North Little Rock, a Greenbrier native and mother of Wanda Dennis Wilson of Conway, died Saturday (Oct. 25, 1997) at St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock.

Born Aug. 4, 1913, daughter of the late Isom and Hanna T. Mallett Williams, she was a homemaker and a Baptist.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Tim C. Dennis.

Other survivors are two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home of Conway with the Rev. Daniel Persson officiating. Burial will be in Mallettown Cemetery.
