Four Conway young people, the girls being sisters, made the state fair more notable by choosing fair week as the occasion for their nuptials. The contracting parties were Miss Effie Gentry and Leo McHenry and Miss Jewel Gentry and Giles Crow. Although the nuptials were solemnized Thursday night, no announcement was made until a Little Rock newspaper published issuance of marriage licenses. Will Gentry, father of the brides, said no mention of the nuptials was made to him until he questioned the girls. The double ceremony was solemnized at First Christian Church by Rev. Daly. Miss Effie Gentry, who formerly taught school at Mayflower, was attending a Little Rock business college. Her sister was employed in the office of Smith Auto Company. Mr. McHenry and Mr. Crow were well-known Conway boys.

Conway's storming Wampus Cats battled their way to a 31-7 victory over Stuttgart Ricebirds in Young Memorial Stadium before a Hi-day crowd estimated at 3,000. With the opening quarter only a few minutes old, Conway quarterback Bimbo Parker connected with Billy Stephens from the 32, and Stephens scampered over for the first touchdown.
The Ricebirds scored, and then Dalda Womack took the kick back and raced to the Ricebird's 18-yard line, but a clipping penalty moved the ball back to the 33. Parker made the second Cat touchdown. In the second quarter Gealsol Graham picked up a Ricebird fumble on the Stuttgart 30 and ran for the third touchdown. After Stormy Smith intercepted a pass. Graham scored the fourth touchdown.
