Conway will host be host to Wheel of Fortune auditions in November.
Kathy Wyrick, vice president of marketing for the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce, said Friday she learned the legendary game show will indeed hold auditions at the Conway Sports Center in the Don Owen Recreation Complex on Lower Ridge Road.
"We are extremely pleased that Conway was selected as the location for the Wheel of Fortune's auditions," Wyrick said. "With the popularity of the show, we expect a tremendous turnout. Based on the information I have received, it will be a fun event for all attendees," Wyrick added.
According to a press release, Wheel of Fortune's Wheelmobile is coming on Nov. 14-15. The 32-foot Winnebago will be at the sports center from 4 to 8 p.m. each day. During those times, Arkansans will be invited to audition for the show.
KATV, working together with Wheel of Fortune, chose Conway as the location, Wyrick said.
"Everything worked out perfectly," she said.
Wheel of Fortune has aired on KATV each weeknight at 6:30 for years.
Wyrick discussed with the Conway Advertising and Promotion Commission on Tuesday the possibility that the auditions could be held in Conway.
Mike Kraft, chairman of the A and P Commission, said Friday, "I think this is something that's going to give Conway a lot of exposure. It's a fun event that will attract people from both inside and outside Conway. I think it's going to be fun for people. We have many great programs in Conway, but this grabs a different demographic. I admire the tenacity our people have in bringing things to Conway, from the HP project to Wheel of Fortune. It just goes to show our city really knows how to work together."
According to the press release, "People who come to the 'Wheelmobile' event and fill out an application will be eligible for a tryout, determined by a random drawing. Those selected will be brought up to the stage and interviewed. Those contestants will then play a version of the Wheel of Fortune Speed-Up Round. All contestants who make it on stage will receive a prize, and all will be evaluated as potential contestants on the show. Producers will be looking for enthusiasm, energy and fun. If any contestants are selected for final auditions, producers will contact them directly at another time."
