   
Thompson retains National Rooster Crowing title

McGintytown's Ann Thompson retained the title of National Rooster Crowing Champion at the 2008 World Chicken Festival held last month in London, Ky.
Thompson was also named World Human Crowing Champion in June at the Rogue River Rooster Crow in Rogue River, Ore., and has crowed on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.
Thompson said that she faced nine competitors this year, some of whom were "pretty good" and some of whom said "Oh, you're back. I shouldn't even try," she said.
Thompson learned to crow like a rooster as a side effect of trying to teach an apparently mute rooster. She will crow later this week in Little Rock to open the 2008 Arkansas State Fair.
