Bears split 2 in softball

The University of Central Arkansas softball team split two games on Sunday at Farris Field, defeating Paris Junior College 7-3 in the opener, then falling to Arkansas-Monticello 4-0.

Against Paris, the Bears pounded out 10 hits, while UCA pitchers Kelly Martino and Holli Hill held the Dragons to four.

Martino, picked up the win by allowing three hits, three runs and a walk while striking out three in four innings. Junior Holli Hill recorded the save by striking out four and allowing one hit in three innings.

Kacey Britt, Courtney Brock and Paige Burke had two hits each for the Bears.

UAM's Kayla Jackson struck out four in a four-hit shutout performance in the second game. McGregor allowed eight hits, four runs, two walks and struck out seven for UCA.

Rachel Baucom led UCA with two hits.
