Safety is the name of the game when tailgating

Drinking and driving do not go together, whatsoever.

Last Saturday, I attended the Arkansas-Louisiana Monroe game at War Memorial Stadium, and I enjoyed it like I always do when I have the opportunity to see the Hogs in person. Everything from the tailgating festivities to the game was that of a big-time college football atmosphere. I just had one problem that could have put a big damper on the whole day. After the game was over, there were too many careless drivers out on the road.

I know that some of those drivers drive crazy and careless on a daily basis. But, I realize that some of those people may have had too much to drink. It's obvious. I could go on and on about the countless driving violations that I noticed from Markham Street until I got off Interstate 40.

I'm not trying to say that anything is wrong with drinking (for you adults who do) at a tailgating party because there's not when done in moderation. Just, for the sake of other people's safety and other people's kids' safety please be safe in consuming alcohol while tailgating and it's not a bad idea to have a designated driver. Because, all it takes is one mistake to be in a bad wreck.

YOUTH FOOTBALL REPORT

JETS 6, STEELERS 0

The Freyaldenhoven Heating/Air defeated the Farm Bureau Steelers 6-0 in a rematch of last year's super bowl game.

The Jets' Terrance "Fleet" Minor's 60-yard kickoff return on the opening play of the game was the difference. Although, the Jets' T.J. Wardlow batted down a Steelers' pass in the end zone in the fourth quarter on a fourth down play to secure the win.

"The guys have been waiting a whole year for another chance at the Steelers," Jets coach David Bowser said. "The kids really have been looking forward to it and I think that loss in the super bowl last year made them work a little harder in the offseason. Our offense kind of sputtered a little bit, because we fumbled the ball four times. But, I know our offense will come around. Our defense played outstanding."

Bowser noted Austin Canady, Derail McCoy, Terrance Hill and Kameron Laird had strong games on defense.

The Jets recorded 8-0 victory over the Steelers in the B game.

Raeshon Fisher scored on 25-yard touchdown run and the defense picked up a safety.
