Hendrix splits in VB tourney

IRVING, Texas The Hendrix College volleyball team opened its season by going 1-1 in day one of the University of Dallas Invitational on Friday afternoon at the Maher Center.

The Warriors defeated Presentation College, 3-0, in their first match and fell to Concordia University, 4-1, in match two. Hendrix started its 2008 campaign with a 25-14, 25-22 and 25-19 sweep over the Saints before losing to the Tornados 27-25, 25-23, 20-25 and 25-18.

The Warriors were led by junior middle blocker Terricka Thomas in the first match with 12 kills. Junior setter Patty Hill paced the squad with 33 assists while sophomore libero Kim Larson and junior outside hitter Ryan Hughes led the team in digs with 17 and 13, respectively.

Hughes tallied a team-high eight kills in the second match while Hill passed out 34 assists and three aces. Larson made 24 digs against Concordia.

Hendrix wraps up the tournament at 11 a.m. today against the University of Dallas and a 1 p.m. contest against Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Austin College. Tomorrow's match against the Roos will not count toward the Warriors' conference record.
