Conway Christian's dreams of a home football game in its debut as a member of the Arkansas Activities Association have been washed away by Hurricane Gustav.
The Eagles' junior and senior high games against Earle, scheduled to be the first to be played in their newly constructed campus stadium, have been moved to Earle. Those games will be played Friday night with the junior game beginning at 5:30.
Chuck Speer, CCS athletic director and head football coach, said the recent torrential rains, brought on by the landfall of Gustav in south Louisiana, has delayed the final touches on the new stadium.
"First of all, our field is flooded with standing water all around it," Speer said Wednesday afternoon. "Some of our players went out (Wednesday) and took pictures."
Parts of central Arkansas have received 5 to 8 inches of rain in less than 48 hours.

Most of the remaining work on CCS' stadium relates to power and electrical wiring.
"The electricians and workers had been really pushing through and were about to put the final touches on things, but they couldn't work in the rain and wind," Speer said. "Ray (Nabholz) and his crews might have been able to push on through and get things ready by Friday, but the first time we would be able to turn on the lights and the scoreboard and the power to the stadium would have been on game night right before the game, and I didn't want to chance that and have something go wrong.
"The University of Central Arkansas has been great in letting us use their field at times, but they've got a game Saturday night, and they don't want us to jump on it Friday night and tear it up. We've checked with some other schools in the area, but no one wants to have their field torn up, and I understand that. It's wet and muddy everywhere. So, we'll go to Earle, where it will also be wet and muddy."
The home opener for the Eagles' in their new stadium is now set for Friday, Sept. 11, against Little Rock Lutheran, a 5-2A Conference opponent.
