A painting of a baby held in God's hands with a soft background of clouds was donated to the Conway Regional Bereavement Center by LaVerne Behra and her family.
The plaque below the painting states "Raven Elizabeth Hodges - DOB-DOD 3-25-08. God so loved her that He called her home before she could know Him in this life." It was dedicated to members of the maternity unit. Behra stated the family, knowing her granddaughter's unborn child was in trouble, supported each other by saying "she is in God's hands."
The picture she saw in her mind during those trying days is now displayed on the second floor of the Women's Center.
LaVerne Behra was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder in 2001. EMS is a neurological disease that caused her to have pain, trouble walking, and most seriously for a women who painted landscapes, her mind and hands would not work together. She was in a wheelchair for four years while being treated with chemotherapy and steroids. When her eosinophiles came back into tolerance she gradually felt improvement and while attending a Women's Retreat with Peace Lutheran Church in February 2008 she found the desire to do some sketching of pictures from The Story of Jesus book. The sketching resulted in several paintings of Jesus that have been displayed at Peace Lutheran Church.
Behra states that her painting style has improved and she has developed a deeper love of Jesus as she continues doing the Jesus paintings.
