Farrell Ray

On a cold winter day, Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1930, in the rural community of Caney Valley, near Plumerville, a baby boy was born to Rufus Jefferson Stacks and Erie Wofford Stacks. Thus began the life of Farrell Ray.

A lifetime resident of the Caney Valley area, Farrell Ray received his education in the Plumerville School system. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and returned home to farm, raising cattle.

On Friday, Oct. 1, 1954, at Plumerville, Farrell Ray was united in marriage to Anne Morphis. Their young family was blessed with two sons, Steve and Danny and one daughter, Charlotte.

Though a farmer by trade, Farrell Ray also worked, for a number of years, at the Levi Strauss Co. in Morrilton. Being good with his hands and having a natural talent working with machinery, he was responsible for the maintenance and repair of the sewing machines and other equipment.

Becoming a Christian at an early age, Farrell Ray was a faithful member of the Caney Valley Missionary Baptist Church for 60 years. He loved to listen to gospel music and looked forward to attending the gospel singings held in the area.

Farrell Ray was an outdoors man, who found pleasure in working on the farm caring for the cattle, gardening, doing different kinds of woodwork and working on his machinery, especially the tractors. Big on family, he loved having the family together and enjoyed telling jokes and stories about the adventures of family and friends in the "good old days."

On Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007, at his home in Plumerville, Farrell Ray answered God's call and went home to be with the Lord. Farrell Ray walked this earth for 77 years, leaving his footprint on the lives of all he met. Always a happy person with a beautiful smile and a ready handshake for all, Farrell Ray will be remembered for his love of the Lord and his love for his fellow man. He always put others before himself and was a loving husband, and a wonderful daddy and granddad and a great friend. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Those left to mourn Farrell Ray's passing include his wife of nearly 53 years, Anne Morphis Stacks; two sons, Steve Stacks and wife, Diana of Niangua, Mo., Danny Stacks and wife, Kristie of Little Rock; one daughter, Charlotte Huggins and husband, Ken of Conway; one brother, Jerry Stacks and wife, Lucille of Hensley; grandson, Skye; granddaughter, Trisha; one aunt, Wealthie Faulk of Conway; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Minister was Bro. Cecil Burgess, and the eulogist was Joseph Stacks.

Honorary pallbearers: Oral Smith, Ray Tackett, Billy Chism, Harold Chism, Dewayne Miller, Charles Garrett, Ray Faulk, Clyde Stacks and Doyle Ray Trafford.

Pallbearers were Phillip Garrett, Joseph Hagan, Taff Morphis, Johnny Trafford, Clay Stacks and Matt Little.

His parents, Rufus and Erie Stacks preceded Farrell Ray in death.
