(1922)

Mr. and Mrs. Will Purvis arrived for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Keith L. Holloway. They had recently returned to America from residence in Venezuela.

The unexpectedly bullish condition report by the United States Department of Agriculture sent cotton values soaring. Prices shot up for net gains of 150 to 170 points. The net gains averaged about $5.50 a bale. Cotton prices jumped $8.50 a bale on the New Orleans exchange.

(1947)

Bulk of the estate of Mrs. Louvenia Wallace Donaghey, widow of George W. Donaghey, one-time governor, was bequeathed to her niece, Johnnie Wallace of Conway. The estate was valued at about $90,000. All the property except Mrs. Donaghey's home was willed to Miss Wallace. Proceeds from the sale of the home were to be divided between Miss Wallace, Reba Harris, a niece by marriage, and Raymond Donaghey, Granville Donaghey and Claude Donaghey, nephews of the former governor.

Sale of the former O. G. Lyons grocery and building on Washington Avenue to Eugene C. Hankins was announced. Hankins planned improvements to the buildings. He formerly operated Hankins' corner near the Arkansas State Teachers College.

(1972)

Dr. and Mrs. Robert B. Benafield and children, Leslie, Bryan and Lenlie, occupied their new four-bedroom home on Donaghey Avenue. The Benafields sold their home at 31 Meadowbrook Dr. to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Weaver.

Mr. and Mrs. Bob Nutter returned from Fort Worth, Texas, where he attended the Southern States Apprenticeship Conference.

Dr. and Mrs. B. C. Alread returned from a three-week tour of Austria and Italy.

J. W. Nicholson scored his fifth hole-in-one in the last three years at the Briarwood Country Club. He played with a foursome that included Jerry Williams, Leonard Milburn and Allen Killen.

(1987)

Conway optometrist D. Lloyd Guerin received the American Optometric Association's 1987 Optometric Recognition Award. The award was presented during the 90th annual Congress of the 26,000 member American Optometric Association in Orlando, Fla.

A banquet at Bowen's Ramada Inn Restaurant in Conway and a picnic at Burns Park in North Little Rock were part of the events celebrating the reunion of the family of the late Henry and Melinde Brown of Faulkner County. Coordinators for the event were James Solomon Brown Sr. of Detroit, Delma Grant Jones of North Little Rock and Marion Wright Gault and Dianell McCray Maltbia, both of Conway.
