Our dear husband, dad, Buddy, papaw, father-in-law, brother and friend, Jerry Lynn Rose, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, July 17, 2008, at his home in Conway surrounded by family and friends after a nine-year battle with Parkinson's disease.
He was born the second of five children to Gib and Essie Massey Rose at Big Flat (Baxter County) Aug. 14, 1936. He grew up and graduated from Big Flat High School where he was an outstanding basketball player. After graduation he met the love of his life, Bronnie Hawkins Rose. They recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Deloy Rose; father-in-law, Abraham Lincoln Hawkins; sister-in-law, Hazel Hawkins; and son-in-law, Ronnie Hill.
He is survived by his dear wife, Bronnie Rose; three daughters, Blyson Marie Kelso and husband Phil of Rockwall, Texas, Sherry Lynn Loyd and husband Max of Conway and Melanie Kay Albat and husband Erich of Conway; five grandchildren, Rose Loyd Harris and husband Brandon, Rachel Albat, Joshua Albat, Amanda Kelso and Michael Kelso; three great-grandchildren, Grady, Jace and Grace Harris; sister, Betty Rose of Big Flat and special friend Don Wilson of Fifty-Six; brothers, Benny Rose and wife Shirley of Arnold, Mo., and Edward Rose and wife Dorothy of Bowling Green, Ky.; sister-in-law, Glen Rose of Arnold, Mo.; brother-in-law, Calvin Hawkins of Mount Vernon; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Caldwell and husband Gary of Conway; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Jerry was a member of Second Baptist Church since moving to the Conway area in 1968. He was proud of his volunteer service to his country in the Army. He was a builder in the Faulkner County area for 33 years. One of his greatest pleasures was helping young couples get their "first home." He served 12 years on the Vilonia Waterworks Association Board of Directors. He also enjoyed raising and tending his cattle.
Jerry loved his family dearly and especially the grandkids. His idea of a family vacation was a two-hour trip to his beloved mother's house and the family farm, "Bear Pen." He loved being a "hunting guide" for his family and telling stories about his days growing up in Big Flat. He loved those special family hunts. He also enjoyed taking his family camping, fighting off wild bears and getting fishing hooks out of the trees by the pond. He never complained because he loved it all and enjoyed spending time with his family.
