GREENBRIER Bragging rights for both Mayflower and Greenbrier couldn't be determined on the field in Wednesday's 7-on-7 competition, but many lessons were learned.
The game ended deadlocked at 8. Afterwards, the two teams split and played two other opponents Harding Academy and Searcy. During the course of the day, many coaches saw some things that their team needed to improve on, but also they noticed bright spots on both sides of the ball.
Greenbrier's football program is under a new regime with Randy Tribble serving as the head coach. He has been a proven coach who has shown interest in a knowledgeable quarterback to execute the spread offense. Jordan Duvall headed Greenbrier's offensive attack and he threw a touchdown pass in the Mayflower scrimmage. Tribble has seen his progress through the spring and into the summer. The signal-caller has been doing some intense training this summer, which includes attending quarterback camps and developing relationships with his receivers.
There was another Jordan who quarterbacked a team on the field, Mayflower's Jordan Duvall. Before the games that were played at Greenbrier, he helped guide the Eagles to a 7-1 record in their league, which is hosted at Harding Academy on Monday nights.
The Panthers have been playing in their own league on Monday nights at home and they've traveled to other nearby schools to face teams such as Bigelow.
"Our kids have been working hard," Tribble said. "We have been working out three days a week and we've went to team camps and played 7-on-7. I feel like we're making some progress. In the spring, it was kind of hectic because baseball players weren't out there, but now we have them. We're heading in the right direction."
