Capt. John Randall of the Faulkner County Sheriff's Office reported more than $5,000 in damage to the Faulkner County Jail Unit II facility caused last weekend by three inmates who thought destroying county property would shorten their sentence.

The three inmates, Randall explained, told FCSO corrections officers that they believed that they would be sent to Arkansas Department of Corrections facilities sooner if they caused damage at the county jail.

Two of the inmates, Joseph Warren, 22, of Conway, who was arrested for five counts of breaking or entering, three counts theft of property and theft by receiving, and another inmate, who has not yet been positively identified, destroyed overhead fire sprinklers in separate incidents, resulting in flood damage that Randall said included "complete destruction" in the office of Deputy Christina Ross, located on a lower floor immediately beneath the worst of the damage.

Jason Williams, 30, also damaged two jail toilets believing he was expediting his transfer to ADC.

A convicted county jail inmate behaving ideally while awaiting transfer to ADC would have 1/3 of their time served in county jail counted towards their sentence, Randall explained. It isn't uncommon for inmates to "act out" in the pursuit of being moved along to ADC sooner, he said, but it is always fruitless, as FCSO jail administrators "have no authority over who goes to (ADC) faster."

Randall said he will seek face felony destruction of property charges for the two inmates who have confessed, and will continue to seek evidence leading to the identity of the inmate who was involved in the other sprinkler incident. If convicted of the felony charges, the sentences of those responsible could be lengthened.

Their plans, Randall said, "did not work at all."
