Among reports recently generated by the Conway Police Department:
1. Fleeing in a vehicle at Highway 365. A CPD sergeant in an unmarked car spotted a stolen Infinity I-30 sedan entering Interstate 40 on Wednesday afternoon and called for a marked car to intercept and stop the car. Two patrolmen responded, joining the unmarked car as it continued to trail the Infinity as it exited I-40 and headed south on Highway 365. The driver, later identified as 30-year-old Curtis Morris of 1220 East German Lane, Conway, attempted to flee the patrolmen at speeds as high as 90 miles per hour before turning off into a northeast Lake Conway neighborhood, where he crashed into a tree near Earl Drive and Charles Street. Morris was captured while attempting to flee on foot after the crash and arrested on suspicion of theft by receiving, fleeing in a vehicle, fleeing on foot, careless driving and driving on a suspended/revoked license. The Infinity had been reported stolen on June 20 from a man who said he agreed to let an unknown black male in his mid-20s borrow his car for a few hours and never saw him again. "The victim further stated that he was very drunk at the time he gave the keys to the suspect (and) stated it was a very stupid thing to do on his part."
2. Fraud. Between June 25 and Wednesday management at Conway's Due Amiche restaurant on Dave Ward Drive received by fax and phone orders for 200 chicken marsalas and 200 lasagnas. Credit card transactions to pay about $6,000 for the food were initially accepted, and the restaurant agreed to wire about $3,000 through Western Union to pay for the food's delivery. On Wednesday, when the food was to be picked up, no one arrived to claim it and credit card companies were calling the restaurant to inform them that the credit card transactions used to pay for it had been reported as fraudulent.
3. Residential burglary at 2500 block of Donaghey Avenue (June Beene apartments). At some point between 8 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. Monday, someone broke into an apartment by smashing a rear window after apparently shutting off power to the apartment. A Philips 42-inch plasma TV, two HP laptops, a Creative Labs MP3 player, and about $75 in cash were stolen.
4. Breaking or entering at 1400 block of Old Morrilton Highway, 300 block of South Donaghey Avenue and 1700 block of Arden Lane. Between 7 p.m. Sunday and 8:45 Monday morning three vehicles were broken into and GPS receivers stolen.
