(1934)

George Ligon, Conway Boy Scout, won honors in a swimming meet conducted at Camp Quapaw. He was runner-up overall. He placed first in the 25-yard free style, 25-yard breast, 25-yard back stroke and 100-yard free style contest. He was also a member of the winning 100-yard relay team.

Notice: I will operate a barbecue stand at the Veterans of Foreign Wars picnic on the Wagner lots July 3 and 4. Enjoy barbecued lamb, pork, beef, ham and chicken sandwiches and cold drinks of all kinds. George Joseph.

(1959)

The State Health Department warned that Arkansas was facing a "severe polio season." The department said 12 cases had been reported in the past two weeks, making the total for the year so far 34. The department urged the taking of polio inoculations. About a third of the persons under 20 had received a three-shot series; about 60 percent had one shot, about 51 percent had received two shots.

Mr. and Mrs. Coy Glover and daughter, Marilyn, had as dinner guests Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stevens and children of Spanaway, Wash., and Mrs. Russell Fuller of Little Rock, Mrs. Rebecca Glover of Wooster and Mr. and Mrs. Coy Glover Jr., and daughter, Marsha, of Conway.

(1984)

Stephen Halter graduated from the Commercial School of Arkansas where he received his real estate license. He was employed by Hepner Realty Inc. He was also assistant plant foreman at SICO Inc. of Conway. He was a graduate of Conway High School and received his bachelor's degree in industrial technology at the University of Central Arkansas.

Ophthalmologist Dr. Richard Hendrickson moved his office to 939 Locust Ave., the former location of the late Dr. Lee Halbrook's dental clinic. Sharon Shaffer and Elizabeth Parker would work for Hendrickson in his new office. Hendrickson graduated from the University of Central Arkansas in 1967 and from the University of Arkansas School of Medicine in 1971.

(1999)

Members of Altrusa International of Conway met at the home of Maybeth Johnston. Alice Hines conducted a brief business meeting. The program was presented by Trayce Welborn, assistant director of the Women's Shelter of Central Arkansas. Dessert and coffee were served following the program.

The Conway School District planned to hold a public meeting to gather input on adopting a uniform student dress code. The school board had been approached by parents asking for a pilot uniform program at the Marguerite Vann and Ellen Smith elementary schools.
