Conway's city youth baseball program ended with a bang Friday.

There were five league championship awards handed out during an action-filled evening.

"Everything went smooth. Even though we had to make some games up during the regular season because of the rain, everything was on time in the postseason tournament," Conway Parks and Recreation program director Clint Brock said. "We had big crowds every night of the tournament even with the heat. This week, we had a total of 815 kids out playing baseball. It's been a sight to see."

Texas A&M pulled an upset in the Buddy League championship game with a 17-4 win over previously unbeaten North Carolina. The Aggies finished the regular season 12-1-1, while the Tar Heels went into the tournament with a mark of 14-0.

"North Carolina is a good, well-coached team, but they didn't play us during the season," Texas A&M coach Mitch King said. "We were fortunate to have six kids that returned off of our Yankees team from last year. I told the guys that they deserved this because they put a lot of time and practice in. We were also able to get our bats going because every kid had a hit."

The Nebraska Cornhuskers ran away with the Minor Little League regular-season title with a 13-1 record. On Friday, the Cornhuskers turned away Kansas' upset bid by recording a 17-7 win for the tournament championship.

LSU beat Miami 13-3 for the Major Little League title. The two teams finished one-two at the end of the regular season, with Miami atop the polls with a 13-1 record. Michigan won the Pony League championship due to a forfeit by Kansas.

The last championship game of the day was provided by the Tike League. Nebraska finished the regular season in third place with a 9-5 record and Texas A&M won the regular season title with a 9-2-3 mark.

The Tike League championship was nothing less than exciting.

The Cornhuskers won four games in two days with only eight players. Nebraska won both of its elimination games on Thursday to get into the title game, but it had to win two against top-seeded Texas A&M.

TThe first game, Nebraska slipped by the Aggies 17-16, but in the second game the batters had a coming-out party while recording a 16-6 win.

"It's remarkable that we only played with eight players and was able to win all of those games," Nebraska coach Scott McFadin said. "These guys just went off of heart. That's what they used against all odds."

Sportsmanship awards were handed out to one team in each division. For Pony League Oklahoma State received the trophy, Major Little-Washington, Minor Little-Colorado State, Buddy-Maryland and Tike-Oklahoma State.
