We remember the harrumphing from a decade ago. Crotchety newspaper editors and publishers had no choice but to throw together a Web site. They hemmed and hawed, but an online presence was a necessary evil, a distraction from the real business of putting ink on paper.
For many news folks, that attitude has remained strong.
Not here.
Our main news site, www.thecabin.net, has been and is increasingly an integral part of our news delivery system. We use our online portal to update breaking news and provide information to folks near and far.
In coming days, we will unveil the overhauled www.thecabin.net. Our parent company, Morris Communications, has invested a ton of resources to develop a Web site template for all its daily newspapers that enhances our ability to provide content quickly and efficiently.

This huge project has emphasized one focus, and we have distilled the premise into a few words: It's all about You.
What you want to know.
Where you want to go.
Who you want to learn about.
Whatever you want to do.
Our new www.thecabin.net will includes tons of material, much like our current site, but what separates this new platform is what we like to call the "town square" concept. We have developed the site to serve as a gathering place for any and all who have an interest in our little corner of the world.
There will be lots of places folks can discuss the news of the day or whatever they choose. In addition to commenting on stories and photos, visitors to the site will be able to join forums on various subjects or create their own. We are also inviting a number of community leaders to serve as regular contributors, bloggers, actually.
We can't wait to finish tweaking the site and let the world see. Stay tuned.
We are also ready to unveil another product that we're excited about.
We've known for some time that not only do we need to provide the news and information people want, but we have to provide it in the format they want it in. Our new electronic edition of the Log Cabin Democrat will do just that.
We are ready to offer a digital edition of the newspaper every page, every day electronically.
Who might prefer an electronic version of the local newspaper?
Several groups of people, actually. Those who want local news but like the idea of saving paper. Those who want a less expensive alternative to the home-delivered edition. Those who live elsewhere but want to keep tabs on what's going on here.
So, keep an eye out in our printed edition and on our Web site for more information about the e-edition. We think you'll like it.
Technology has always been a part of our industry. From lead type to satellite transmissions, newspapers are evolving. The Log Cabin Democrat is evolving, too. Our ever-growing online presence and our various delivery systems ensure that this media company can serve our customers' needs. We've had a great first 130 years. We look forward to the coming century.
