Mr. and Mrs. Charles Collins were honored at a surprise reception in celebration of their 40th wedding anniversary. The event was hosted by their children, Cyd Collins of Farmerville, La.; Charles and Angela Collins of Bauxite; Curtis and Tara Collins of Athens, Ga.; and a close friend Deborah Davis of Farmerville, La. The event was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Greenville, Miss.
Charles and Cynthia were married May 25, 1968, at St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, La. Charles is the son of the late Charles and Martha Collins of Yazoo City, Miss. Cynthia is the daughter of Cilton Guillory of Baton Rouge, La., and the late Gertrude Guillory.
The couple are the grandparents of Darcey Alyce Collins and Charley Louise Collins of Bauxite.
Charles is a native of Yazoo City, Miss., a graduate of St. Clara Academy, Yazoo City, and Louisiana State University. Cynthia is from Baton Rouge, La., and attended Louisiana State University and holds bachelor's degrees from Delta State University and the University of Central Arkansas.
Charles is retired from USG in Greenville, Miss., and is employed as district forester for the Arkansas Forestry Commission. Cynthia taught for 13 years at St. Joseph High School in Greenville, Miss., and is director of public relations for St. Joseph School in Conway and teaches ninth grade English for St. Joseph school.
Numerous family and friends from Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia and Chicago, Ill., were served a Cajun buffet while 1960s musical hits played.
The couple continued their celebration of this event by vacationing in Las Vegas, Nev., and renewing their wedding vows at The Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas.
