A Conway man was arrested Thursday evening for robbing First National Bank's Skyline Drive branch May 15.

Walton Lewis Butterworth, 27, faces charges of aggravated robbery and two counts of theft of property, one for the money taken and the other for a stolen Chevrolet S-10 pickup police believe was the getaway vehicle.

Butterworth, who gave his street address as Linda Lane and his employer as Nabholz Construction Corp. on the arrest report, is being held without bond in the Faulkner County Detention Center. He was arrested at approximately 6 p.m. Thursday after being questioned at the police station.

Butterworth is reportedly on parole from Cleburne County for a drug conviction.

Butterworth allegedly walked into the bank about 3 p.m. May 15 and demanded money, claiming he had a bomb and a gun. He left with an undisclosed amount of cash and was last seen driving north on Skyline.

The pickup was found abandoned behind a gas station a short distance away from the bank. It had been reported stolen from John Walters Chevrolet just before the robbery. Car dealer employees told police a woman took the vehicle for a test drive and did not return it.

Lt. Kerry Pool of the Conway Police Department would not comment on whether police have any other suspects in the robbery.

"He's the only one charged at this time," Pool said.

Pool also declined to comment on how police were led to Butterworth, saying only the investigation was a joint effort among Conway police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Arkansas Crime Information Center and the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Pool is pleased with the cooperation among the various law enforcement agencies working the case.

Butterworth faces the possibility of federal charges as well.
