I know some of you wait anxiously every spring for the opening of the Conway Farmers Market, so I checked to find out when you can shop for farm fresh produce.
According to the Faulkner County Extension Service, the farmers market will open either on May 24 or on the Saturday after Memorial Day. They were also excited to say there will be honey and cheese available this year.
Restaurant news
Robin Morrissey, who is a friend to many, and to others is known for her brainchild, Silver Moon Cinema, will be opening a pizza restaurant this summer with her husband-to-be, Ken Stauffer. I don't know where it will be yet, but she is positively making me hungry with little tidbits. They are going to call it Stromboli's, and they will serve New York style, hand-tossed pizza, strombolis, paninis and grinder sandwiches.
Listen to her description of a stromboli. "In case you aren't familiar, a stromboli is pizza dough filled with cheeses, meats and veggies, then rolled and baked. It's served with marinara sauce for dipping."
Are you hungry yet?
Speaking of food, Casa Mariachi, the new Mexican restaurant across from Conway High School-West, is open. One reader/customer called and said they enjoyed it.
Furthermore, Taco Bueno is not being secretive about their opening date. They have scheduled their ribbon cutting with the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce for May 12, and they have a big sign outside that says they are opening May 13. Taco Bueno is located at South German Lane and Dave Ward Drive.
downtown news
D.J. Harris and Rose Harris have opened Sassy Sisters Boutique at 1300 Oak Street, the former home base of Southern Style Candles. The boutique opened the Tuesday before Toad Suck Daze.
D.J. Harris said she and her cousin-in-law opened the business together so they would have something to do and could make a little money at the same time. She said she was running the business out of her home but ran out of room for her inventory.
They carry purses, wallets, luggage, some clothes, baby items, hats, jewelry, etc.
Also, the Midnight Hookah Cafe was supposed to have opened Friday night at 1021 Front Street.
For anyone still wondering, a hookah is a water pipe used to smoke flavored tobacco. According to a post card advertising this new addition to downtown, it will have pool, free wireless Internet, and, "coming soon," belly dancers.
