Snap-on Equipment of Conway dedicated a state-of-the-art training facility on Thursday.
The Jack D. Michaels Training Center is named in honor of Snap-on Chairman Jack D. Michaels, who is a former president and CEO of the company and has served on the board of directors since 1998.
Romanitha Jones, communications coordinator for Snap-on, said the center includes a foyer area for informal meetings or lunches and a break room. An interactive classroom seats 20, has a projector and a 12' by 8' screen.
Classes will be held at the center 42 weeks per year, Jones said. Usually the classes last about three weeks. The first training class began March 3, and classes have generally been full, she said. The classes are not only on the technical aspects of Snap-on's merchandise but also on effective customer service, "anything that will help them be successful and help the customer with accurate operating instructions," she said.
"We want to be able to bring individuals to Conway from customers, distributors they can learn to use Snap-on products, which will do a lot for business in Conway. It will be beneficial for customers and Conway as well," Jones said.
The center also has a service area, where sales trainees, customers or distributors can learn how to use products that Snap-on manufactures. In August, Jones said, guests from Japan will visit the center.
"Customers hopefully will benefit from having hands-on and direct training. We hope that spreads out and benefits everyone involved," she said.
Jones said Michaels has been instrumental in improving management throughout the company and bringing about new products.
"We're very proud of the center and proud of Mr. Michaels as well," she said.
According to a prepared statement from the company, "Snap-on Equipment has played a key role in Conway's economic growth for more than 10 years. The Conway facility houses all facets of equipment production including product design, manufacturing, sales and distribution. The company employs more than 200 employees in the Conway area."
