Mayflower, South Side post tourney wins

The Mayflower Eagles and South Side Bee Branch Hornets both advanced to the second round of the postseason after recording wins Friday night.

Mayflower, a No. 4 seed, defeated Prescott which entered the tournament as a No. 1 seed 5-2 in the Class 3A state tournament.

Shane Fowler gave the Eagles a solid performance on the mound, striking out seven in a complete-game effort. Jessie Grace led the charge at the plate, going 2 for 4.

Mayflower is scheduled to play the winner of Friday night's Marmaduke-Pea Ridge game at 2:30 p.m. today in Searcy.

South Side held on to defeat Calico Rock 18-12.

The Hornets banged out 12 hits in the game.

Devon Sullivan led the way, going 3 for 5 with a pair of home runs and four RBI. Jacob Lasley was 3 for 6, including two doubles, and drove in four. Taylor Nelson, who hit a double, went 2 for 4 with three RBI.

South Side will take on Taylor at noon today at Izard County.
