Prospects for the immediate organization of the new First National Bank of Conway with Harvey C. Couch Jr., as its head, were very bright, George H. Bachelor, president of the Chamber of Commerce, said. More than half of the local allotment of stock, to be added to that subscribed by Mr. Couch himself, had been taken at noon and only a few of those who had signified a desire to buy the stock had been called upon. Dr. J. H. Reynolds, president of Hendrix College, said, "A sound bank in Conway is a community necessity! The proposed setup for a bank now pending in Conway is decidedly the best that had come our way. All citizens who possibly can should buy stock. Even if they realize no direct dividends on the stock for a year or two, the indirect dividends of improved business, of restored reputation and of community convenience will pay big on their investments."
