ILS plans style show, open house

Published Sunday, May 06, 2001

Independent Living Services Inc. will present a style show and open house at the Conway home of Patsy Cormier, 1220 Chablis Lane, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. The public is invited.

According to Jackie Fliss, ILS executive director, the style show and open house is being held to raise funds for ILS. Donations will be accepted at the door.

Fashions will be provided by PK's, the Colony Shop, the Green Door, Mary's, Lefler's of Conway and Lefler's of Greenbrier. Fashions will be modeled throughout the open house.

ILS serves the needs of more than 100 people with developmental disabilities in the Faulkner County area. Residential programs include an intermediate care facility with round-the-clock medical staffing, five group homes and an apartment complex.

According to Ms. Fliss, an 18-unit apartment in Greenbrier has been approved and construction is slated to start soon. She noted that people living in their own apartments or homes in the community are provided support from personal care to money management.

ILS also operates Profiles, an adult learning center, where participants can experience a wide variety of subjects including cooking, computer skills, sign language, exercise and other life skills.

ILS board members include Nancy Williams, Ms. Cormier, Sue Alread, Patty Montgomery, Artie Jones, Laura Grimes and Nina Smith.

Assisting Ms. Fliss at ILS are staff members Marian Rodgers, Leah Hill, Liz Zimmerebner, Julia Cooper, Yeves Black, Nancy Skinner, Barbara Spradlin, Peggy Schneider, Evelyn Fecher-Ward and Lynn Campbell.
