Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre prepares to celebrate the bard's 445th birthday Saturday

The Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre will celebrate Shakespeare's 445th birthday with a free event from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Faulkner County Library.

This family-friendly afternoon will feature a mini-renaissance faire behind the library from 1 to 3 p.m. and abridged performances of The Taming of the Shrew and Macbeth at 3, with birthday cake to follow.

All ages are invited, but parents of small children should be warned that the performances of Shrew and Macbeth are rated "PG" and may not be completely appropriate for children younger than 5.

The Faulkner County Library is located at 1900 Tyler St. in Conway.

The Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre will run its third-annual festival of plays from June 10-28 at the Reynolds Performance Hall in Conway and will feature full versions of Macbeth and The Taming of the Shrew as well as performances of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe and the Arkansas premiere of the Broadway smash The Producers.
