Workshop provides professional training for teachers

Published Saturday, April 19, 2008

LITTLE ROCK Spring is here and many teachers throughout the state will be looking for professional development training and workshops. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission may be able to help fill that need with the Arkansas Has It All workshop.

The workshop is scheduled for July 30 at the C.A. Vines Arkansas 4-H Center in Ferndale. The seminar introduces teachers to the many AGFC programs that are available to schools. Examples of workshop classes include Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs, archery, Wildlife in Learning Design, Watchable Wildlife, Underwater Arkansas, boating education, hunter education, shooting sports, Stream Team, Aquatic Resources Education, outdoor photography and GIS/GPS.

This is the best way to educate teachers about the agency and the state's natural resources, according to AGFC education chief Lucy Moreland. "This workshop encourages teachers to take their students outside to a living classroom. Get their feet wet and hands dirty," she said.

Registration for the workshop is $20 and is limited to 500 teachers. Registration must be turned in by July 7. For more information contact Lucy Moreland at 501-223-6433 or go to http://www.agfc.com/education-class/programs/workshop/workshop-4h.aspx.
