University of Central Arkansas senior Matt Noble, 22, envisions his writing career maturing with continuous freedom to write with fewer and fewer restrictions.
Noble will graduate in December with a bachelor's degree in English. His journalism minor has led him to a reporter's position at the Maumelle Monitor, which has been fun, he said.
He will continue a career in newspaper writing following graduation and has thought about working in northwest Arkansas. He likes to write features and be creative.
His real passion, however, is writing science fiction. One of his goals is to write a book.
He doesn't see himself "slaving away behind a computer" in 10 years, and he would never consider being an editor. "Some stylistic things are done to add a different dimension," he said. "Editing can change the rhythm or continuous flow of the work."
"Whatever I do," he said. "I will have to have some realm of freedom for my writing."
