Guy

By Brenda Holt

GUY CORRESPONDANT

First I would like to apologize for no news last week. I don't know where the week went. It was over before I knew it.

Guess I was still re cooperating from the cruise. Doris Watkins and I left out Friday for Houston and spent a couple of nights with my friend Bennie Sue Galindo. We had a great visit. On Saturday we went to down town Houston and she pointed out several landmarks and we spent the afternoon at the Galilee Mall. That night we went to the harbor for supper and it was great seafood. We enjoyed ourselves and the company. On Sunday morning we got up and met the rest of the gang in Galveston. Sue Clay, Robbie Ward, Dean Bryant and Madman Strain left Friday for Galveston and they shopped all day Saturday. We met them to go get on The ConQuest Ship and off we were to Montigo Bay, Jamaica, Cayman Islands and Cosmel. The first day out was pretty chilly but the rest of the week was great! Doris and I went to Nikki Margretville Beach and yes you guessed it we laid out and swam in the ocean. It was fun and beautiful. The others toured Montego Bay the second outing ws to Cayman Islands. Maydean Strain was sea sick so she didn't get off the boat. The rest of us went to the shops. When I got tired cause of my knee I went back to the boat and laid out by the pool. In Cosmel we went shopping and ate at Senor Frogs. We had lots of fun and enjoyed each others company. Now you know the old saying what goes on in Mexico stays in Mexico! There is another trip planned next spring break haven't decided yet if I was going to go or not but if any one is interested let me know.

March came out with showers and April came in like a lion. I think that is suppose to be just the opposite. I hope everyone is okay after all the storms. According to the weather looks like we may be in for some more this week.

The Guy Small town 4-H had several members active in several activities. at their monthly meeting 18 members completed a covered hanger project. Members will be able to enter these in the fair crafts project this year. Congratulating to members competing in the County Talent and Fashion Revue; Jenny, first place in piano , Sara and Eugene, first place in dance, Sara first place in junior Casual Fashion , Morgan and Kinsey, Red Ribbons in Junior Casual Fashion. Members will advance to the District O'Rama in June. Junior members Jenny, Jordan and Senior member Laura all volunteered for the 4-H Teen Leaders AETN Telethon Community Service Project. Kinsey attended the Equine Vet Day held at Dr. Singleton's and learned about Coggin's Test and Floating teeth. There was some discussion about horses getting chiropractic help too. Did you ever imagine that? Several members have already started getting their fair animals for Spring Shows and Jackpots. Jill and Jenny did a "Market Goat Presentation" for members that were interested. Club members have lots planned for April: County Broiler BBQ/Dairy Recipe Contest Club Fishing Derby, County Activity Day, Poster art Contest, and Spring Livestock Shows around the state. Thank you Diana Watkins for the news on the Guy Small Town 4-H

I can't put anything in about your church, your friends, your organizations if no one contacts me about it. Send news to brendadowdyholt33@yahoo.com or call 679-3299 and leave a message.

Please keep till Thorn, Betty Griffith, Trash Thorn in your prayers. Also Heath and Amber Williams, Judy and Terry Williams and Amber's parents as they are all struggling to understand what is going on with amber as well as the doctors they are stumped too. We wish her a speedy recovery very soon.

Keep Amber McKenzie, wife of Jeremy McKenzie and daughter of Boso and Lynn Acre. She was having health problems last week too.

Please remember to not drink and drive. Prom time is here and we want to help keep our young people safe so please be responsible while you are out having a good time.

Last weekend Sandy Dowdy went to the Bocci Tournament for Area 17 Special Olympics. Landon James Dowdy attended his first Special Olympic event and he got to help put the second place ribbon on his Aunt Sandy Dowdy.

Today is the Area 17 Special Olympic Track and Field if you have never been you should come on out to the Conway High School Track. It is well worth it to come and watch an athlete cross the finish line whether it is first place or last place. They cross that line with a pride and joy and big smile and expect that hug too. Too bad the rest of the world could not take a lesson from someone with a disability what a better world we would live in.

The Greenbrier Civitan club had their first Annual Pancake Breakfast and Yard Sale at the Events Center last Saturday. We have several people in the Guy area that are members of the Civitan Club including me. It was a great success. Sandy and I stopped and helped out before we went to the Bocci Tournament. For those of you that don't know what the Civitan Club does I will try and fill you in a little bit. Civitan is an organization that helps and work in the community for all people including disabilities. We are here to help the community. We have members from Guy, Greenbrier and Wooster. We will be having a membership drive in May and your welcome to come and check us out. the club is not a year old yet so come out and get involved with your community.

Gary Griffith and Carolyn, Britten and Tristen Hays came to visit Betty Griffith during the week of Spring Break.

Please wish Jerry Bruce Rowlett a Happy Birthday! He turned another year older on the 10th!

The Mode Cemetery Board which consists of Keith Mode, Linda (Mode) Thomas, Bridget (Remus) Browning, Steve Mode and Brenda Griffith Holt met at my house on Tuesday night to discuss date for the annual clean up which will be May 3 to meet between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. to being clean up at 9 a.m. Several graves need filling in with dirt and tree limbs picked up from the storms. We are also taking up donations to complete the pavilion that everyone voted on to have put in. If you have any questions or concerns, call one of the board members and come to our clean up. The board was set up to serve everyone in the family so that the burden wouldn't be just on one person. If for any reason or at any time you would like to be on the board or have any discussion, contact one of them. We are trying to do what our parents, grandparents, great grandparents have done in the past. To take care of the loved ones in the cemetery that are buried there and to take care us that someday will be there to and our children and grandchildren. Please take part if you have a loved one in the Mode Cemetery they have worked hard in the past for us. Also if you are planning on being buried there please notify Steve Mode or a board member and come and pick out your spot. The cemetery has been marked in lots and that way we can put it on the map of lots. Steve Mode has done a great job in marking off lots and putting them in a map form.

My mother, Betty Griffith, will celebrate her 76th Birthday on April 16th. Please give her a call and wish her happy birthday!

Coppers Springs Cemetery will hold a spaghetti fund raiser on April 19, at Tommy Battle's White Building beginning at 4 p.m. until they run out of spaghetti. Come out and support the cemetery! If you have any questions feel free to contact Margaret Hinkle or anyone on the board.

If you missed the Shady Grove column last Saturday, I have a good excuse - No one called or e-mailed me with any input! I will not write if I do not get any help.

Also congratulations are in order to our other granddaughter, Whitney, and Tommy Collins, upon the birth of their son, Harvey Linn Collins. Harvey made his entry into this world this past Monday by C-section. He weighed a whopping 5 pounds 13 ounces and is 18 inches tall. This little bundle of joy makes Bill and I great grandparents. God continues to bless our family with safe deliveries and healthy babies. We are so blessed.

Servies were good at both churches last Sunday. The weather is getting warmer and our older citizens have a better chance to get out.

Bro. Ron had to lead the music as well as preach again, at the Baptist Church. Shelly Resecker accompanied on the piano while Cullum Tillery was with his wife Mary Jo, who was dismissed from Conway Regional Sunday. She still needs out prayers as her broken ribs and bruised body heals.

Bible study on Wednesday nights at the Baptist Church, led by Bro. Ron is very enlightening, interesting and motivational to those trying to learn about and live the Christian life. Anyone not already attending a Wednesday night service is invited to join them.

Marian McGinty, Sunny Sue Earnhart and myself attended the "Mearcy River Boys" concert at Centerville Methodist Church last Saturday night. The quartet did a great job and we enjoyed it.

Marian's husband, Bach, lost another brother last week, Loyd McGinty. We extend sympathy to the family Marian and Bach attended the funeral and burial at McGintytown.

Our son, Danny and wife Myrt came Sunday night and brought fresh, fried fish and all the trimmings still hot, from cooking it at their house. We had a feast.

Margaret Cupit, Rosa Lee's sister, is in Conway Regional. Please pray for her.

Kara Collins, Rosa Lee's granddaughter, celebrated her 8th birthday last Saturday at her grandparents' home. They had a kite flying contest and a birthday party.

Margie Garrtt and Maureen Fiddler visited Lucille Purifoy last week. She is enjoying a new roommate and doing well.

Lucille's granddaughter, Sheryl Pollock, has been hospitalized for six days due to Luekemia. Kathy Pearce and Carla White visited her Friday at UAMS. They've been helping care for her children, ages seven and four years.

Remember to pray for Monteen Goggans' grandson, Ryan, who will be deployed to Iraq shortly.

Remember the Faulkner County singing club meets tomorrow afternoon at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church at 1:30 p.m. The public is invited.

God watches over us like a loving parent.

CENTERVILLE

CENTERVILLE CORRESPONDENT

The Mercy River Boys concert at Centerville United Methodist Church was such a success last Saturday night that it caused the first traffic jam in Centerville in decades, and possibly ever! The band arrived in their motor home and cars were parked all around the church. It was a sight I have never seen before but hope to see again.

People from as far away as Clinton, Saltillo and Pleasant Valley came to the event, and good food was there in abundance. We extend our thanks to church members who worked so diligently, to visitors who graced our historic house of worship and to the Mercy River Boys for an evening of inspirational Christian music.

We invite everyone to come back anytime for our church services each Sunday at 9 a.m.

Don't forget the singing sponsored by the Faulkner County Singing Club Sunday at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. This club meets on the second Sunday, and in May it will come to Centerville United Methodist, as it has for decades. The singing starts at 1:30 p.m. Pleasant Valley Baptist Church is located on Hwy. 25 just south of Wooster. We hope to see you there.
