HENDRIX TRUSTEES DECIDE TO ADD FOOTBALL
After a 13-month study and debate, Hendrix College's board of trustees has decided to add football to the college's athletic program. Football was discontinued at Hendrix after the 1960 season because of costs. No timetable was set for football to be implemented, but trustees said the sport will only be implemented after start-up costs are raised from external sources. Trustees have also voted to add women's lacrosse with the same stipulation. Further details in Wednesday's editions of the Log Cabin Democrat.

Hendrix softball splits with Rhodes

Hendrix's Ellen Burr and Sara Hunter each clubbed two -run home runs in the third inning of Saturday's second game against Rhodes College to help the Warriors to a 5-3 win at Warrior Field, gaining a split in the doubleheader.

Hendrix dropped the first game, 11-4.

Hendrix is now 6-16 overall and 2-4 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference while the Lynx are 8-12 overall and 1-5 in league play. The Warriors rank third in the conference's West Division and hold a one-game lead over Rhodes.

Hendrix fell behind early in the nightcap when the Lynx scored two runs on three hits in the opening frame.

The Warriors grabbed a lead they would not relinquish in the third when Burr blasted her first homer of the season over the right field fence. She drove in Frances Goodrich, who led off the inning with a walk.

McKinzie Fruchtl followed Burr with a triple to right before Hunter hammered her second homer of the year over the left field fence.

The Warriors scored an insurance run in the fifth when Burr walked, moved to second on a passed ball, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and raced home on single to right center.

Hendrix's Sarah Hightower improved to 4-6 with the win. She yielded eight hits, three runs (two earned) and one strikeout in her fifth complete game of the season.

The Warriors were out hit 13-7, left 11 runners on base and struck out 11 times in their 11-4 loss in Saturday's opener. It was Hendrix's first loss to Rhodes in three years and ended an 11-game winning streak against the Lynx. Hanna Braden went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI in the loss while Hunter was 2-for-3 with a double, one run and an RBI.

Jaclyn Herrera fell to 2-10 with the loss.
