The Conway Family History Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has received updated materials.

According to Anne Edgmon, director, the center has received updated material for the International Genealogical Index (IGI) and the Social Security Death Index.

The IGI contains dates and places of birth, christening or marriage, and names of parents, spouses and children. Mrs. Edgmon said the new addendum to the IGI now contains more than 149 million names. It includes names received up to Jan. 25, 2000. She said the new version is contained on 31 new discs at the library.

The United States Social Security Death Index contains names, birth dates, death dates and zip codes to which benefits were sent. Mrs. Edgmon said the March 1999 update from the U.S. Social Security Administration was added to the U.S. Social Security Death Index and now contains approximately 63 million records on three compact discs.

Mrs. Edgmon noted that the volunteers at the center are unable to do research for individual patrons but that they are happy to assist them in their own research.

There is not a charge for this service, but there is a minimal charge for forms or copies.

The Family History Center is located on Dave Ward Drive and is open to the public from 1 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
