MOUNT VERNON The South Side Bee Branch baseball team held off Mount Vernon 13-8 here Monday night.

The Hornets (3-1, 1-0 5-1A) banged out 10 hits in the win. Taylor Nelson led with a 3-for-3 performance, including a double, and added an RBI. Jacob Lashley and Mason Ragland both finished 2 for 2 with a double each. Lashley also had two RBI.

Seth Moore added a hit and two RBI, and Alex Williams had a hit and an RBI. B.J. Franks finished 1 for 1.

Isaac Smith (2-0) picked up the pitching win in five innings of work and added a ground-rule double offensively. Deon Sullivan threw the final two innings. They duo combined for 10 strikeouts.
