MORRILTON The defending Class 1A state champion South Side Bee Branch Hornets picked up their first win of the season after downing Sacred Heart 14-2 Tuesday night.
The Hornets (1-1) scored eight runs over the final two innings including five in the sixth and three in the seventh to put the game well out of reach. South Side also scored single runs in the first, third and fourth frames and three in the second.
The Hornets pounded out 18 hits in the game, and the South Side pitching combined to allow just four hits from the Rebels and recorded nine strikeouts. Jacob Lasley earned the win on the mound.
Seth Moore, who drove in three runs, and Devin Sullivan were both 4 for 4. Taylor Nelson was 3 for 3 with a double and six RBI. Lasley, who had two RBI, and Cade Ward both had two hits each, and B.J. Franks added a hit as well.
South Side returns to action at 3:30 p.m. today with a home game against Mountain View.
