(1933)
The Westmoreland Store held an auction following a voluntary declaration of bankruptcy. The Westmoreland firm was the oldest and for many years one of the largest furniture stores in the city. A hardware line was added to the stock several years ago. The sale lasted two whole days and netted $2,300. The largest buyers were W. C. Hudson, merchandise broker of Pine Bluff, who, it was said, planned to place the goods on sale at the Westmoreland Store and J. H. Pence Store.

Gene White was promoted to sergeant by the Arkansas State Police and moved to Conway with his family. Sgt. White would travel in 14 central Arkansas Counties as a field supervisor. He was a former member of the Conway Police Department and had been stationed in Little Rock.
Two Conway youths were to compete in a regional Golden Gloves tournament in Tulsa. They were Ray Rogers, welterweight, and J. K. Gibbs, heavyweight.

An English literature room at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond was donated by the college in memory of Dr. Gordon Browning, formerly of Conway, a professor at the college who died in 1982. Browning was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Browning of Lake Charles, La.
Karen Schedler, a senior French literature major at Hendrix College, was nominated to receive an Institute of International Education French Government teaching scholarship for 1983. She would be teacher English at a French high school in the fall. Miss Schedler was a daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Norbert Schedler.

The Conway Area Mothers of Multiples Club sponsored a presentation by nationally known author, Betty Jean Case of Oregon at University Church of Christ. Jean Iron was the president of the local club.
The Junior Auxiliary held a charity event called, "A Solid Gold Evening." The event with a '50s theme included an auction, steak dinner and featured the band Yesteryear. Auction chairman was Anna Massey. Charity Event co-chairs were Lisa Crafton and Stefanie Schrekenhofer. Among the items to be auctioned were the following: an autographed Tiger Woods photograph, a gold plated putter, a Ty Beanie Baby, a basketball autographed by Scottie Pippen, Razorback basketball tickets and a grandfather clock.
