Local gamer's identity stolen through online video game service

A Conway man reported that his identity was stolen through an Xbox Live account.

Johnathon Herbert, 28, reported the theft to a Conway Police Department officer by phone Wednesday. According to the report, Herbert was logged onto his wife's Xbox Live account while talking to the officer. As they talked, the report reads, Herbert's own account was active and it was evident that someone somewhere was using the account to play the game Halo 3.

By illegally accessing Herbert's Xbox Live account, the suspect also gained access to two of Herbert's credit cards and his bank account information. At least three attempts to use his credit card and bank information for unauthorized transactions were made, Herbert told the officer, but he had already notified his bank and credit card companies of the incident. All unauthorized transactions were denied, according to the report.

Herbert also told the officer that he had notified the company that handles Xbox Live Accounts, passport.com, of the incident, but the company refused to disclose the internet protocol (IP) address of the person using Herbert's account to play the video game.
