Relatives of a missing construction executive from Little Rock are asking Faulkner County residents for help in finding the man they've been searching for since Jan. 28.
For all family members know, John Glasgow could be in the Conway area, since during a search for him last week his cell phone pinged off a tower near Petit Jean Mountain, where his car was later found with its door unlocked and valuables inside.
Glasgow, 45, earned a business degree from University of Central Arkansas in 1985, and is the chief financial officer of CDI Construction Company. According to his sister, Miriam Delay-Friant of Oakland, Calif., "He's an incredibly responsible person. It's so out of character for him to just completely disappear."
Delay-Friant, 59, has traveled to Arkansas to help family in an ongoing search for Glasgow, whose car was seen leaving his home by a neighbor at 5:15 a.m., on the morning of Jan. 28. Glasgow didn't report for work that day, his staff became concerned and colleagues reported his absence to his wife Melinda Glasgow, who according to Delay-Friant and Glasgow's other sister, Donna Jean Glasgow, immediately filed a missing persons report.
Glasgow's cell phone pinged once off a cell phone tower in Morrilton on the morning of Jan. 28, and once off the Winrock International tower on Petit Jean Mountain on Tuesday morning. Glasgow's phone and computer were later found in his car on the mountain, though Glasgow wasn't.
Donna Jean Glasgow, 65, of Little Rock, who recently moved to Springdale from Conway where for five years she taught piano at the UCA Community School of Music, said the Arkansas Department of Parks and Recreation, Arkansas State Police and Conway County law enforcement agencies conducted an official search for three days, and since then Melinda Glasgow and about 50 volunteers from CDI began to conduct their own search.
Workers from The Texas EquuSearch Mounted Search and Recovery Team, a volunteer horse-mounted search foundation for lost and missing persons, have volunteered their services in finding Glasgow since last week. Donna Jean Glasgow says EquuSearch workers are nearly certain her brother isn't on the mountain.
"That mountain has been searched so thoroughly, they say they're 99.99-percent confident that he is not up there," said Donna Jean, who commended CDI staff, her sister-in-law Melinda Glasgow and brother Roger Glasgow for directing the ceaseless search.
"Since that Saturday, volunteers led by Melinda have coordinated and directed this search and they've been at it non-stop. (Melinda) had the KATV news helicopter out there because she used to work for them. She's had the news and search crews on standby in case anything comes up.
"We haven't let up in this."
Search and rescue teams from Madison and Marion counties have also volunteered in the search, as the family has now launched a nation-wide search campaign. The Glasgow family asks that readers of the Log Cabin Democrat visit www.findjohnglasgow.com for information about John Glasgow, and to print and distribute fliers about the search.
Glasgow attended UCA from 1980 to 1985 and after graduation was hired as an accountant in Little Rock. In 1990 he was hired at CDI Construction, where he became a controller and was eventually named CFO and company vice president. William Clark, the company's CEO, says Glasgow has been "a trusted member" of the company for 17 years.
While at UCA, Glasgow was a member of Phi Sigma Epsilon fraternity. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Downtown Little Rock Partnership, and is on the Salvation Army Advisory Board Executive Committee.
At the time of his disappearance, Glasgow was thought to be wearing khaki pants and a khaki coat or a green ski-style down jacket. He is six-feet-tall; weighs 180 pounds; has sandy brown straight hair; and gray and green eyes.
Authorities say they don't know whether John Glasgow is still alive, or who would've abducted him. Donna Jean Glasgow said last week, "We don't know that a crime has been done, but a criminal investigation is taking place. And we hope to see this process through to completion."
Family members are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to Glasgow's return. Persons with information should contact Sonny Stover of Conway County Sheriff's Office at 501-354-2411, or their nearest local or state authorities.
