WOOSTER Heavy rains have slowed construction of the new Wooster Elementary School, but metal building supervisor Scotty Loyd expects the project to be on schedule soon.
"We expect to finish up by July 1," Loyd said.
While heavy red mud at the construction site has slowed some of the work, the iron framework has been completed, and the roof and interior of Building A is on schedule, Loyd said. Electrical and plumbing work is also proceeding on schedule.
The cold weather has not been as much of a nuisance as the rain, said Loyd.
"The only thing that the cold might affect is some of the block layers," Loyd said, adding that most of the work that could have been affected by winter weather had already been completed.

The new school will be the third elementary in the Greenbrier School District, which has seen explosive growth as the city's population expands. Beginning of the year enrollment was up by 70 students at Eastside Elementary, with significant enrollment gains on every campus in the district. The school board recently approved an elementary school rezoning plan to place students at the new school.
Wooster Elementary School is scheduled to begin classes in the fall.
