A beginner's yoga class will be held at the Faulkner County Library.
The class will meet once a week, Thursday mornings from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Feb. 5, 12, 19, and March 5. Sign up is required, call 327-7482 or e-mail to sarah@fcl.org.
The instructor will be Anne Avant, E.R.Y.T. (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher), who began attending Iyengar hatha yoga classes while living in the San Francisco area in 1978 where she studied with many senior teachers. She continued her studies after returning to Little Rock in 1984, began teaching in 1987, and was the first teacher in Arkansas to receive her Iyengar certification in 1991. Avant regularly attends Iyengar workshops and conventions to maintain her certification and keep current on Mr. Iyengar's teachings.
Yoga is an ancient art based on a harmonizing system of development for the body, mind and spirit. Yoga practitioners say the continued practice of yoga will lead you to a sense of peace and well-being, and also a feeling of being at one with your environment. The practice of yoga makes the body strong and flexible, it also improves the functioning of the respiratory, circulatory, digestive and hormonal systems.
The class is free, open to the public and will take place in one of the meeting rooms of the Faulkner County Library. Yoga mats will be provided free of charge. Space is limited to 15 people. Sign up is required.
