The defending regular-season champion University of Central Arkansas had a league-high six players named to the preseason All-Southland Conference women’s soccer team, five on the first team.
Juniors Camille Bassett, Ashley Smith, and Kristen Ricks are joined on the first team by seniors Dayna Mounie and Stacia Carroll, while senior Alex Moore earned second team honors.
Bassett, from Vista, California, is the conference’s reigning Player of the Year after leading the league in shots (65), shots per game (3.61), points (30), points per game (1.67), goals (13), goals per game (0.72), and game-winning goals (5), as the Bears went 10-0-1 in league play and 15-4-1 overall.
Plano, Texas native Smith was third in the league in points (28), points per games (1.40), goals (11), and goals per game (0.55).
Mounie, from Foothill, California, ranking 10th in the league in goals (6).
Ricks (Keller, Texas) and Carroll (South Jordan, Utah), combined to win five of the league’s 12 Defensive Player of the Week awards on the season, and led the Bears in minutes played. They formed the backbone of a UCA defense that held its league opponents to just seven goals in 11 games.
Moore, a native of Yukon, Oklahoma, played 1,355 minutes in the Central Arkansas midfield and also contributed offensively, tallying four goals and tying for second with eight assists. Three of her goals were game-winners.
The Bears play an exhibition match at Southeast Missouri State at 5 p.m. on Friday, before kicking off the regular season at Little Rock on Aug. 18th.
