Vilonia track plans car washes to raise money for championship rings

The state champion Vilonia senior boys track team will hold three car washes from noon to 6 p.m., June 13 at Centennial Bank locations in Conway — 1815 East Oak St., 2690 Donaghey Ave., and 945 Salem Road.

The team hopes to raise money to assist with the purchase of championship rings.

The team won the 5A state championship for the third time in as many years.

This year, coach Michael Stout said, was different. “The young men competed and overcame diversity a mere 11 days after the community of Vilonia was devastated by a tornado.”

The win, Stout said, was achieved through hard work, commitment and determination. In the past, he said, the team has relied on businesses in Vilonia to offset the costs of the rings.

With about 85 percent of businesses in Vilonia affected by the tornado, Stout said, they are asking for help from others outside Vilonia.

Stout said the cost of each ring is about $250. For more information, call Stout at 870-703-9560.
