St. Joseph bowlers second in tourney

St. Joseph finished second at the Class 3A-2A-and 1A Western Conference bowling tournament held in Lowell, qualifying the Bulldogs’ boys and girls to move on to the State Tournament at Jonesboro. The Elkins Elks won 1st Place in both divisions. There were 11 girls and 12 boys teams competing in the tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs racked up 2,758 points behind Elkins’ 2,886. Junior Sarah Downey bowled a team high of 151 and compiled a three-game total of 440 which established her as the number six bowler in the conference out of 74 girls. Senior Elizabeth Hambuchen finished 12th with a total of 424, Jordyn Hess had 414 points for 13th, Linzy Hoelzeman had 385 for 17th, and Melissa Hambuchen had 376 for 19th.,

Junior Matthew Pruitt bowled a team high 225 in his third game which gave him a three-game total of 568. This elevated him to third-ranked bowler out of 77 in the Conference. Freshman Andrew Marks finished fifth with a 555 three-game total. Sophomore Grant Merkel had 535 points for a ninth-place finish, sophomore Nathan Hambuchen was 16th with 512 points, junior Aaron Hoelzeman was 25th with 472, and senior Spencer Freyaldenhoven had 425 to finish 32nd.
