Peters leads Panthers to 35-0 win

Posted: August 30, 2012 - 9:21pm

Greenbrier quarterback Seth Peters had a sunny debut on a rainy night Thursday at John Hawks Memorial Field at Don Jones Stadium.

Peters, taking over the Greenbrier offense from record-setting Neal Burcham, passed for three touchdowns and rushed for two more in leading the Panthers to a season-opening, 35-0 victory over Beebe.

Peters passed for 163 yards and rushed four times for 137, including touchdown runs of 87 and 22 yards. He passed 10 yards to Austin Fischer, then broke for 87 to give the Panthers a 14-0 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Peters connected with Fischer for a 5-yard touchdown, then passed 40 yards to Gerrell Williamson. He capped the scoring midway through the fourth quarter with his 22-yard run.

The game, rescheduled from Friday night, was played in a steady rain.

"We executed well offensively, considering the conditions," said Panther coach Randy Tribble. "We came up bigtime defensively. They moved the ball up and down the field but we kept them out of the end zone."

Greenbrier plays next week at Texarkana.
