Fayetteville rallies for overtime victory over Wampus Cats

Fayetteville sophomore Payton Willis scored six straight points in overtime Thursday night as the Bulldogs pulled away to a 54-49 victory over Conway in the 7A boys state tournament at Buzz Bolding Arena.

The Bulldogs outscored the Cats, 16-11, in the extra period.

Willis had 19 points and 10 rebounds for Fayetteville, which advanced to play Springdale in Saturday afternoon's quarterfinal.

Javonte Ellis led Conway, which shot 15 of 50 (30 percent) from the field, with 12 point and five rebounds. A.J. Burton added 10 points and five rebounds. Demarian Johnson had 10 points.

"It was a game of runs and they had the last one," said Conway coach James Bates. "The shots we had been hitting, we didn't hit tonight."
