Circuit judge dismisses Bryant appeal

Pulaski County circuit Judge Mary Spencer McGowan on Thursday dismissed with prejudice an appeal by the Bryant School District to remain in 7A/6A South instead of moving to 7A/6A Central for the Arkansas Activities Associaton’s 2014-2016 classification cycle.

Bryant officials had appealed the AAA’s realignment because of significant travel issues and expenses in traveling to schools in the Central Conference, which will consist of Alma, Conway, Greenwood, Little Rock Catholic/Mount St. Mary, Russellville, Siloam Springs and Van Buren.

The judge concluded that the vote of the AAA Board of Directors to place Bryant in the Central Conference was fair and in accordance with AAA rules and that Bryant failed to establish the decision was abitrary, capricious and without rationale. She noted that transferring Bryant to 7A/6A South and moving another Central Arkansas institution to the Central Conference would have similar travel impacts on that institution and its request to play seven 6A schools because of geographic reasons would result in no conference games counting toward postseason play,
