Schools to be split into 7A and 6A in 2016

New prep football classifications OK'd by board

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Activities Association's governing body has approved new conference classifications that will split Class 7A and Class 6A into separate leagues, beginning in 2016.

Now, Class 7A and 6A play each other in football during conference play before splitting off for separate championships. Under the plan approved Wednesday, Class 7A would include the state's 16 largest schools by enrollment, with 6A including the next-largest 16 schools.

Guidelines for all other classifications will remain unchanged. The new structure was approved on a 94-40 vote for the 2016-2018 cycle.
