The All-Stars are here. Let the games begin

High school All-Stars got their first taste of Conway on Monday as athletes from six sports gathered at the University of Central Arkansas.

The week-long series of games, which will include baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball, basketball and football, will begin Tuesday night. All contests will be played at UCA facilities.

The All-Stars went through orientation and photograph sessions Monday, then began meetings and practices.

It begins quickly for baseball and softball players, who will play doubleheaders Tuesday night.

Soccer and volleyball games will be played Wednesday. The basketball games will be Thursday, and the football game Friday.

Tom Courtway, UCA president, greeted the stars when they assembled at the Farris Center.

“Don’t get hurt, have fun, make some new friends and let’s have some good competitions,” he said.

“Bring your parents and friends and have them spend money here,” added Jack Bell, who represented the City of Conway.

The All-Star games, held in conjunction with the Arkansas High School Coaches Association clinic, will be played for the second year in Conway under a five-year contract.
